Renee Toroian

A Little Thing Called Life

Laurie Beechman Theatre
New York, NY
Renee Toroian’s second song, “Turn On the Sunshine” was redundant.  She’d already done so!! This charming lady immediately radiates sunny spirits, good will and is devoid of pretension and artifice. Hallelujah! What a pleasure to be in her company and share an especially life-affirming show. She sings winningly and warmly. Her satisfying act at The Laurie Beechman Theatre was diverse, smartly directed by Helen Baldassare. Renee, gracious and natural, could consider adding more drama: handling real emotion is a strong suit.

Beyond wisely hiring good musicians, she married one and gave birth to another! MAC-winning pianist/arranger/trio leader Gregory Toroian shared some hip vocals and banter, sit-com-ically checking baseball scores between songs. Son Kyle Steinberger guested on guitar: a touching family moment.  Renee sang of her sons growing up in “Letting Go” (Crider/ Rollings), a truly moving highlight. She connects, bringing tears, then cheers. She plans an autumn return.
