Opening Doors’ The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public dares to use the ‘F’ word ---- Flop-- providing another look at a big ol’ musical that died on the vine on Broadway but had…..sorry, HAS plenty of life in it. Just watching the exuberant and youthful cast bringing out the juice and joy was a joy in itself… a sure-as-shootin’, rootin’, tootin’, non-high-fallutin’, prostitutin’, hoot’nin’, hollerin’ good time. Despite title/ subject matter, it’s really mostly good, clean fun: winking rather than leering, set in Nevada where houses of thrill repute are legal, but evading taxes still isn’t. Therein lays their dilemma. With a truncated book, savvy director Hector Coris got the broad strokes and the broad humor for the Broadway-style broads, businessman, and buffoons working for the government. Emphasis is on the songs and silliness --- some surprisingly sweet moments emerge, too. Next, revisiting Broadway’s Goldilocks --- September 12-14 back at The Duplex.
