Modern Man

Assisted Living, part of the Jamie deRoy & friends series at the Metropolitan Room, celebrated the release of Modern Man's third CD. A more rib-tickling, quick-witted, or satirical trio would be hard to find. It's a near-miracle that, accompanying themselves on the keyboard and acoustic and electric guitars, David Buskin, Rob Carlson, and George Wurzbach sing so well, considering they do it tongue-in-cheek.

For those who know the group, many jokes (Wurzbach recognized his German roots when at puberty he experienced an irresistible urge to invade Poland), and many songs ("Jews Don't Camp") were familiar, but still able to invoke hearty laughter. Others in the audience, new to Modern Man, seemed unable to contain themselves. All were given free CDs at the end of the show. Regrettably these were not DVDs, which would capture the patter, the interchanges, the facial expressions, and the body language. For if the group were not musically talented, they could perform as stand up comics.
