Attorney Marty Geiger made his cabaret debut two years ago at Danny's. This new show, Summer Baby at Don't Tell Mama, is based on the theme of his favorite season and July his birthday month. Marty's patter was comfortable and interesting, particularly the stories of his childhood and camp days when cast in Damn Yankees and given the part of Lola - a song he performed in an hilarious manner. Opening with “In The Good Old Summertime” and other summer songs such as “Too Darn Hot,” he wove his patter throughout the well-chosen songs, some amusing and some very touching. A highlight was his rendition of “Mama, a Rainbow” sung to his 80-something mother, Lola, sitting in the SRO audience. Paul Greenwood provided masterful accompaniment and vocals performing the female role in “Summer Nights” and joining Marty on “She Loves You.” Although his vocal technique could use strengthening, Marty more than made up for it in this well-crafted, honest and enjoyable evening.
Martiy Geiger returns to Don't Tell Mama October 16, 18 & 19.
