One of Davenport's September's highlights was Carla Gordon's On The Money. (Uh, could we have a more topical topic?) Did you all know that Carla's alter-ego is a professor of finance? Carla, I think you should wear that boa to the lectern sometime. (I'm referring to the lush boa made of currency in large bills which Carla sported on her entrance.) My favorite moments: Her 1920s-style original piece, "I'll Keep My Investment In You;" her tender, direct deliveries of "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" and the gorgeous ballad, "I.O.U.;" her down and dirty treatment of "Can't Buy Me Love;" and—the one that had me reaching for my kleenex—Dolly Parton's "Coat of Many Colors", a poignant reminder that "you are only poor if you choose to be."
