Susan Egan & Georgia Stitt

All Knocked Up (Again)

Metropolitan Room
New York, NY
Adorable bookends, Susan Egan and Georgia Stitt, shake their bellies to the rhythms and rhymes of baby-dom and motherhood in their second-time-around pregnancies. They teasingly take jabs, one-upping each other on the original “My Very Best Friend.” Tony and Drama Desk nominee Egan has had a busy Broadway career, while Stitt has become a noted composer/lyricist and is married to another notable, Jason Robert Brown.

It wasn’t easy coming up with material related to babies, mothers and husbands but they cleverly culled from the obscure and not so obscure including Stitt’s original works, i.e., “I Get to Show You the Ocean”—the heart-filled joys of mom introducing the wonders of the world to daughter Molly. Christine Lavin’s “A Musical Apology” served Egan well in this back-peddling song, as a constant apology for bad behavior to a prospective husband. “Pregnancy Medley” was a series of smart lyric choices from such songs as “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” ”Steppin’ Out with My Baby” skillfully arranged by Christopher McGovern.

Egan’s resounding lilting vocals sounded better than ever and her race to the finish “Momsense,” to the “William Tell Overture,” with lyrics by Anita Renfroe, was a pièce de resistance. And they’re both having girls...again!
