Lindsay Eure

Hit Me With a Hot Note

Wells Theater
Norfolk, VA
“Life’s too short to be subtle,” was one of Lindsay’s asides. Hence, her opening song, “Hit Me with a Hot Note,” signaled the flavor of her two-act one-woman show. She was soon performing the most animated version I’ve seen of “If I Can’t Sell It.”  The leggy blonde takes no prisoners!

Eure has appeared on over fifty stages around the nation, and dues-paid for several years in New York. She created the entire production and left few stones unturned. Her patter was exceptional, as was the choice including the verses.  Her broad vocal range enables her to cover a wide spectrum of expression. Closing the first act, Eure tap danced well and then seduced a piano thoroughly.

Not the least bit bashful, Act II saw Eure clad in red, just right for “I’m a Woman (W-O-M-A-N)” and “Some Cats Know.” The finale summed things up: “The Joint Is Jumpin,’” putting an exclamation point on Eure’s penchant for jazz songs clad in Broadway showmanship. In closing, she cooled down a scorching audience, to beg off with “Smile,” entering the crowd to finish with love.

Pianist / musical director Phil Hall brought his awesome New York credits down to Norfolk’s elegant Wells Theatre, and conducted a stalwart local combo. The stunning sets were by Cory John.

This theater-presentation would have to be modified for a small cabaret, but Lindsay would find that a simple challenge.

Big things seem inevitable for this mid-twenties veteran, who brings a rich feel for lyrics, supplemented by the stage presence of meticulous veteran.
