Barb Jungr

The Man in the Long Black Coat

The Arts Theatre
London, UK
Barb Jungr works hard for her money – that’s for sure. Once again she proves she’s the best living interpreter of modern songs. It seems like everyone is a huge Jungr fan, and I don’t know if I have any new words to put forward to sing her praises. Concisely, her Dylan show is a tour de force from start to finish and a master class for singers. It’s pure pleasure for the audience. What impresses me most every time I see her is that she brings a passion and pathos to the stage that is all too rare. It’s not that other singers aren’t passionate, or that they don’t connect to their lyrics, but Jungr has something unique. She inhabits every song, both musically and lyrically. Between songs, her anecdotes and witticisms are hilarious—they show a woman with a tremendous sense of humour who understands both the joys and pains of life—and they’re incisive, relevant and current.

Barb Jungr is a performer NOT TO BE MISSED. She’s frequently on both sides of the Atlantic, so next time she’s in your city, don’t debate, just GO!
