Craig’s Pomranz returned to London to make his Pheasantry debut. His show is far from the downer the title might suggest.  It’s chock full of lovely, lyric songs which show off his delicious tenor voice to a T, but he doesn’t forsake comedy numbers either, making sure to keep the show balanced.

The highlights were the more intense songs of the night — a truly beautiful “These Foolish Things (Remind Me of You),” “It Never Entered my Mind” full of internal pathos, an intensely moving version of the definitive break-up song, “Where Do You Start?,” and “Love Walked In” bringing the show full circle.  By far, the best moment was an intense and incredibly moving “My Eyes Adored You.”  I have to admit I never really liked it, but Pomranz shed a new light on it, and we actually heard the lyrics anew.

I love Pomranz’s tone, whether it’s his lyric falsetto, his warm, rich and breathy lower register or his “comedy” voice.  He’s a master at his craft, and it was clear the audience appreciated his talents, both as a singer and a storyteller.   I look forward to his next London visit.
