Love, Incorporated

TBG
New York, NY
Love is a funny business….especially when a savvy businesswoman applies her skills to meeting and snaring her crush, a TV commentator. Hilarity ensues as she hires two assistants, methodically taking on research, planning …. and deception. Finding out what his ideal is, she pretends she’s it.  Marc Castle’s lighthearted but solid book and score unfold in traditional musical comedy style, with modern twists, with some genuine heart tucked between fast-paced laughs. Love, Incorporated‘s director, Igor Goldin, keeps things brisk and frothy, bringing out emotion at key points.

Jennifer Blood makes the conniving businesswoman endearingly shy rather than shark-like. As her prize, Jonathan Rayson sings like a dream, bringing dimension, inner struggle, and a romantic soul to the role. Playing all other characters skillfully are zingy comic chameleon Tally Sessions and sharp, sassy Hollis Scarborough.

Groundbreaking? No. Delightfully entertaining? Absolutely.

The show played just through August 10 at TBG, 312 West 36th Street, but look for a return.  It would be “bad business” not to bring back something so charming and smart.  See www.loveincmusical.com.
